Eugenia involucrata is an evergreen shrub from the Amazon basin in Brazil. The lancet shaped bright green leaves are nicely coloured and have a very tropical feel to them. This plant is also grown in several other parts in South-America where it is grown for its fruit. In Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina there are small farms that propogate this plant for its fruit. This implies that the plant does not only thrive in the warm wet areas but also grows in the more arid places with lower temperatures. There are examples of this plant surviving -5 degrees celsius. This is quite impressive for such a plant however it is wise to winter these plants in a warmed greenhouse or living room for better survival chances.

The chance of giving fruit will start from grown age (around 5 years or more) and the quality and quantity of the fruits are mostly dependend on the ground and fertilizer that are used. In the warmer regions of Brazil the fruits ripen within 3 weeks after flowering. Multipliying this plant is done mostly trough seeds. The fruit itself is red/purple in colour and look like a kind of guave. However they are a lot smaller but ever so sweet!
