Lonicera caerulea "Duet", also known as honeyberry, produces delicious dark blue elongated berries in the month of June.
The fruits grow to about 3–4 cm long and may look somewhat unusual, but they are real vitamin powerhouses, rich in vitamins B and C, pectin, and antioxidants.
They have a fresh, aromatic flavor that is slightly sweet and sour. The fruits are also excellent for making chutneys, jam, and juice.
The honeyberry prefers a sunny location to light shade. At the beginning of April the plants bloom with small white flowers, and fruit formation begins immediately after flowering.
Lonicera caerulea 'Duet' is self-pollinating, but planting several shrubs together improves fruit production. A mature shrub can easily produce around 2 kg of fruit.
The honeyberry shrub grows to about 100–125 cm tall and has a bushy growth habit.
In autumn the leaves develop attractive colors, and in winter the plant loses its leaves. Pruning should only be done if necessary in December, removing only the older multi-year wood down to the ground.
