Yucca filifera is a plant native to Mexico that is very drought-tolerant and also tolerates high temperatures well. This plant can be placed in locations where it is too hot for other plants. The Yucca filifera owes its name to the thin "leaves" that grow from the heart of the plant. Thin white threads are attached to these leaves.
This yucca can become truly gigantic. Under the right conditions, it can reach a height of 10 meters. In Europe, however, it will remain much smaller. The yucca does, however, bloom very easily. When the plant is old enough, it will produce a flower bud every year. These flower clusters can grow up to a meter long.
In the Mexican desert, it can also get cold in the evenings. As a result, this Yucca is well-suited to withstand colder nights. However, ensure that the plant can always drain water properly. Additional drainage granules in the soil can prevent root rot.
Furthermore, the plant requires little fertilizer. Once a year with, for example, cow manure pellets or our Mediterranean fertilizer is more than sufficient. All in all, therefore, a plant that thrives where other plants would not survive.
Winter hardiness zone 4b (-30ºC).
