Albizia kalkora also called Kalkora mimosa, belongs to the subfamily Mimosaceae which also includes the Mimosa or Acacia. The Albizia kalkora grows as a shrub or tree form.
This Albizia kalkora is not so much to see in our country and certainly not for sale on a large scale.

When the tree is in bloom from the end of June to October, many will be amazed by the very exuberant flowering and beautiful yellow / white inflorescence. Albizias flower from their second or third year and flowering becomes more and more abundant as the Albizia ages.
The Albizia kalkora gives an extra tropical accent to your garden and it is beautiful to see for the special leaves on this tree.
The Albizia kalkora has double-sprung, sickle-shaped leaves that look a bit like a frond.

Leaves are folded shut at night, which is why it is also called the sleeping tree.
Half an hour before the sun goes down, the leaves slowly close.
The silk tree (also called because of the silky fine flowers) feels at home in a sheltered warm place in full sun and is well hardy.

The more sun in the summer, the more it blooms and the stronger the new shoots will become. In a sheltered place where there is half shade, the sleeping tree also works well.
The Albizia kalkora does not make many demands on the soil as long as it is not too acidic. No pruning is necessary, if you want to prune the best at the end of March.

Plants lose all their leaves in the winter, young plants do not have any side branches when they are delivered after the winter, which reappear in the course of spring.
Protect young plants against frost until the stem has a diameter of 2 cm or more, after which winter protection is no longer necessary.
Winter hardiness zone 6a (-20ºC).
