Pistacia lentiscus belongs to the family of Anacardiaceae just as the wig-tree family belongs to it.
And this tree belongs to the same genus as the Pistacia vera (pistachio nut) of which there are almost 10 species.
The Pistacia lentiscus is a shrub or small tree that is evergreen. Older plants get a whimsical rough strain.

This plant contains a kind of aromatic resin that used to be used to make varnish for paintings and is still used today to produce wood filler.

In the summer the mastic tree cream / red flowers in the form of a plume.
