Eucalyptus citriodora is also known as Corymbia citriodora. Since 1995, the latter name has become the official name of this plant. However, both in trade and academically, the name Eucalyptus citriodora is still often used. This is mainly because the tree belongs to the Eucalyptus family and shares many similarities with other Eucalyptus species.

This species originates from northeastern Australia and can grow there into a very large tree, with some specimens reaching up to 50 meters in height. The tree is also widely planted in other parts of Australia and grows well there too. Sometimes it grows so well that it is considered an invasive species.

The trunk of the tree is striking. Initially, the tree grows with peeling bark on the trunk, which can later become smooth. This also adds to the ornamental value of the tree. The gray/brown trunk also matches nicely with the gray-green leaves of the Eucalyptus. The leaves of this tree change depending on the age of the tree. Younger leaves have hairs and are almost herbaceous, while older Eucalyptus have almost leathery, lance-shaped leaves that are tough and can persist for years.

The real added value of this species is its scent. The oil extracted from this tree is highly recognizable by its fragrance. For those troubled by mosquitoes in the summer, a citriodora is a good solution. The citronella scent is due to the fact that as much as 80% of the essence of the oil from this tree consists of citronellal.

The Eucalyptus is not frost-hardy; the tree must be brought indoors in winter and kept above 0°C. Pruning is very easy. The plant can be cut back well when necessary and will regrow from other points. This makes it a well-maintainable container plant with added value in terms of both scent and appearance.
