Dregea sinensis is a fast climber that has its origin in Western China. The leaf has the shape of a heart and is pale green in color, the underside of the leaf is hairy.
The flowers are star-shaped and white in color, with the heart of the flower covered with purple stripes. These hang in clusters on the plant.
The flowering starts in June and lasts until September. The flower smells strong and wonderfully sweet and spreads this soft aroma in the vicinity of the plant and deserves a place on your terrace.
The plant can tolerate a few degrees of frost and in a sheltered place our winters should not be a problem, provided the foot of the plant is protected.
The plant will sprout again in the spring with fresh new leafs. Then cut the plant back to 30/40 cm and put a large layer of peat on it so that the roots do not freeze.
The Dregea sinensis could also enter as a tub plant in the winter, pruning back is not a problem, hibernate coolly and occasionally give some water. In the spring he runs quickly again.
Winter hardiness zone 9a (-6 / -8ºC).
