Woestijn-desert Agave mitis

Agave mitis has it's origin in Eastern Mexico. It is reasonably well known agave because of the leaves and spikes that are not as hard as with other agaves. A friendly variety of agave. This species can grow up to 60 cm in height and have a diameter of a meter.

The mitis can flower and does this on a stem of up to 2,5 meters. This Agave likes to be in loose soil with good drainage. The plant is very drought resistant and will show when it needs water. The soft leaves of the plant hold a lot of water. When the mitis is dry it will start to consume this emergency supply. The leaves will therefore get thinner and shorter. When this happens it is high time to water plant. The best thing to do is to put it in a dish of water. Trough this the plant can soak up the water it needs. 

This agave is not hardy, it is best to be put in a pot with good drainage.
