Vaccinium corymbosum Goldtraube or blueberry is a self-pollinating shrub-shaped plant.
This is kept in the open ground or as a tub plant. If you keep the plant as a container plant, then water on time, because she likes extra water in the summer.
If planted in the ground, sprinkle some organic matter on the roots in the form of peat and tree bark and repeat this every spring. The roots of the blueberry are fairly superficial and this prevents dehydration.
The plant may also receive extra water in a dry hot summer, which translates into a substantial production of fruit. Plant distance in the ground 100/150 cm.
Pruning is done directly after the winter in February / beginning of March by deeply pruning the old wood (wood where the year before was worn). do not be afraid that you will prune the plant too far, they will go out again in April with new shoots.
On the new shoots in the spring, the same season, abundant blueberries appear again.
The delicious sweet blueberries can be eaten in this way, but of course jam, juice or wine can also be made.
Except that they taste great, they are very healthy and are full of antioxidants and vitamins.
In autumn the plant is a feast for the eyes and discolored the leaves to bright red. The Vaccinium corymbosum is hardy.
Winter hardiness zone 6a (-22ºC).
