Phyllostachys bissetii is one of the most hardy Phyllostachys species. The bamboo is named after David Bisset a chief inspector of the Barbour Lathrop Bamboo Garden in Savannah Georgia from 1924-1957. This introduced the Phyllostachys bissetii in 1941 in China (Chengdu).

This powerfully growing bamboo can reach a height of 5 to 8 meters and can be planted as a group in open locations.
Beautiful deep green, fairly strong stems up to 4 to 5 cm thick are typical of Phyllostachys bissetii. This bamboo plant is also ideal as a hedge plant, it grows approximately 2 to 4 m² wide and is evergreen in winter.
Do use a root limiter for the Phyllostachys bissetii, it is a fairly aggressive usurer and prune every year where necessary.
The culms are fairly close together, so if you want to thin out the older culms, this is not a problem.
Winter hardiness zone 6a (-23ºC).
