Blad-leaf Matteuccia struthiopteris - Fern

Matteuccia struthiopteris is a fern with is part of the family Aspidiaceae and can be combined very well with other plants in your garden.
Even as undergrowth the fern can be used perfectly, this perennial can prefer a semi-shade to a shady place.
You may plant the fern in a slightly damp place, along waterways and streams this fern also occurs. However, it is not preferable that the plant should always be slightly damp.

Plants in ordinary soil is also not a problem, especially if you make the soil more humus richer with some garden soil / potting soil.
The fresh green, elegant and softly feathered leaves appear in the early spring when the soil is warming up and grow into a funnel shape.
This sail can be between 75/100 cm high and grows cluster-shaped. A group of cup pollen is a beautiful sight in the summer but also in the winter.

In the winter, ferns die and turn to a light brown color, but the inner spores remain.
If they are covered with frost in winter, it is a wonderfully beautiful and picturesque sight.
The Matteuccia struthiopteris is a real asset to the perennial border.
Can be combined nicely with for example Dicksonia antarctica.
For planting, you can suffice with up to 4 plants per square meter.
