Amorpha fruticosa or False indigo shrub is an ornamental shrub that belongs to the legume family and likes to be in a sunny place.
The name Indigo shrub comes from the indigo pigment they produce to a limited extent. This fabric is used to color jeans.
The Indigo shrub has fresh dark green pinnate leaves, but is deciduous in winter. This ornamental shrub is very strong and super hardy. Has no preference for the soil in which it is planted. The Indigo shrub brings even more nitrogen into the soil and is able to enrich poor soil.
The plant is also drought tolerant and tolerates extreme heat well.

The flowering of the Indigo shrub is very special and beautiful. From July to September it flowers very exuberantly above the green leaves.
The flowers are cone-shaped and blue/purple in color with contrasting yellow stamens. Butterflies and bees love this plant.

Pruning is not really necessary with this slow-growing ornamental shrub. If you want to prune, you can do this by shortening any long twigs in the spring.
This shrub grows from a shrub to 150/250 cm.
Amorpha fruticosa is very hardy and needs no protection, even in a harsh winter.
